The holiday season is so fun for us – the weather slows the pace, we bring in the decorations, and start dreaming up plans for the upcoming year. It’s also a lovely time for reflection.
Constellation is such an odd place – we’re a peripheral spot, not quite Bloomfield or Lawrenceville, on Penn and just steps from Main, right in the thick of the city but also quiet and peaceful in the garden and in store. We have seen so many trends come and go in specialty coffee, and just quietly continue to do our work with gratitude. There’s something about repetition that I find very valuable – if you’re practicing something with awareness and humility you’re always growing and finding more joy in the day to day. When you’re working to build and maintain rather than just consume, the care required to maintain all those little relationships and inter-working mechanisms creates space for expertise, complexity, mastery.
We have always valued creating community and that certainly includes our staff. As we’ve grown over the years we are so proud to have educated, informed baristas on staff. It is my firm belief that one should be able to be proud of a career in the service industry and afford to choose to work in this field.
